This guidebook was compiled through the collective efforts of the Japan Diabetes Society so that doctors who specialize in diabetes, general practitioners, and co-medical staff who are not diabetes specialists can share the latest and most appropriate information on diabetes treatment and provide medical care while cooperating smoothly. The guidebook is designed to be used broadly by medical professionals, mainly general clinicians. It gives a detailed review of the overall situation against the backdrop of progress in the clinical management of diabetes, presents diagnostic criteria in Japan for metabolic syndrome and the treatment guidelines for hypertension and lipid metabolism disorders complicating diabetes, and discusses new oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin formulations. The end of the book includes a table showing currently used oral hypoglycemic agents and blood glucose meters.
